Fashion Revolution 2019 - Join the revolution!
In case you missed it, Fashion Revolution has become the driving force for shifting the fashion industry to a more ethical existence. Since the horrific collapse of the Rana Plaza factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh which cost the lives of 1138 garment workers just like me and injured 2500, we've seen a bright light examining what goes on behind the glamour of fashion. Fashion Revolution is an all encompassing movement to rally consumers to demand transparency and ethical practices of brands, and brands to voluntarily provide that information to the public.
So what can you do?
Well there are many easy, fun, cheap or free ways to get involved in Fashion Revolution every year!
Print off or make a 'Who made my clothes?' poster and take a pic of yourself in your favourite outfit with the hashtag #whomademyclothes to publicly ask the brands on your tag who is behind the brand and whether their practices are ethical.
We love this one from Katrina aka The Conscientious Fashionista who is doing this challenge every day this Fashion Revolution week over on her instagram @the_conscientious_fashionista
This high fashion look is a Zimmerman skirt, Gregory blouse, Paul Green boots and a gorgeous hat made in Argentina by local artisans. Looking forward to comment from the labels she has tagged!
If you want to take up this challenge and print off your sign you can get involved here
Take the #haulternative challenge — a way of refreshing your wardrobe without buying new clothes: from shopping secondhand, swapping with a friend, renting special pieces, to DIY customisation.
We love these ideas via Ginger Muse who have compiled a great list of 8 ideas for customising denim pieces. Get together with a bunch of friends, get cosy and start refreshing your fashion!
Share your fashion love story - Rather than buying new, fall back in love with the clothes you already own. Share your story, or write a love letter about an item of clothing that means a lot to you.
We loved this video from YouTuber Mariah Idrissi with her love story about her Mickey Mouse shirt - watch it here
